Elements and terrain: the element circle explained

Eight elements, nine terrains, four synergy pairs. Know them and you win more paths than with any rare card.

The eight elements

Fire, water, plant, ice, earth, air, light and shadow. The element sits at the top left of every card. It is the same system as in the Wildlands.

In the path duel an element edge against an opposing card on the same path gives +1. In Wellkeeper strike is multiplied by 1.25 to 1.35.

The nine terrains

An element beaten by the home element gets -1. On the ember field a plant card loses 1 and a fire card gains 2. Cards with home advantage get the terrain bonus twice.

In the path duel 3 of the 9 terrains lie above the paths each game. In Wellkeeper every ring field has a terrain, mirrored for both sides; the well has none. Landscape cards change a field's terrain for 3 days.

Synergy pairs

Four pairs complement each other: fire and air, water and plant, earth and ice, light and shadow. A matching element on a neighbouring path (path duel) or next to it (Wellkeeper) gives +1.

Families

Cards of the same family (for example two Beanlings) also give each other +1, in the path duel on the same or a neighbouring path, in Wellkeeper on the same field ("herd"). Element pair and family together give at most +2 per card.

How to use it

  1. Check the game's terrains before you play.
  2. Put cards where their element is at home.
  3. Keep an answer ready for every common element: against lots of plants, fire, ice and air help.

Every card's element and stats are in the card gallery.
